Best Singing Tools & Resources for Singers
The Tools I Use in My Singing Lessons to Build Healthy, Confident Voices
In my singing lessons, we prioritise building reliable, healthy vocal technique step-by-step - so your voice feels easier, stronger, and more confident every time you sing. These are the exact tools I use and recommend to students to support and optimise their progress.

Balance Board
A dynamic tool for building stability and awareness. Standing on a balance board challenges core engagement and coordination, helping singers release tension and discover a grounded posture. This exercise encourages better alignment, balance, and support—key foundations for confident, healthy singing.

Exercise Ball
Great for posture and alignment work. Sitting or balancing on an exercise ball helps singers release tension, engage their core muscles, and find a more natural upright stance for breathing and support.

Resistance Bands
A simple tool to build strength and flexibility. Resistance bands can be used for shoulder, back, and breathing exercises—supporting better posture, rib mobility, and stamina for singing.

Yoga Blocks
Perfect for semi-supine practice and gentle body alignment. Using yoga blocks provides support under the head or knees, helping singers release unnecessary tension, lengthen the spine, and encourage optimal posture. This simple tool promotes ease in breathing, grounding, and body awareness—an ideal aid for vocal practice and relaxation.

Nasal Steamer
A simple tool for direct vocal tract hydration. Using a nasal steamer delivers warm, soothing steam to the throat and vocal folds, helping singers relieve dryness, ease tension, and maintain healthy, flexible voice production.

Straws
Straws can be used for water bubble and SOVT (semi-occluded vocal tract) exercises, helping singers release tension, balance breath pressure, and build vocal efficiency. This gentle practice supports healthy voice use, smoother transitions, and greater vocal stamina.

Acapella Choice PEP Therapy Device
Designed to support individuals with chronic respiratory conditions such as COPD, bronchiectasis, and cystic fibrosis, the Acapella device helps maintain clear airways and promote better respiratory health. For singers, it can also serve as an effective alternative for SOVT (semi-occluded vocal tract) exercises, encouraging efficient airflow, reduced tension, and healthier vocal function.

Anesthesia Mask
Originally designed for medical use, the anesthesia mask has found a new purpose as a highly effective SOVT (semi-occluded vocal tract) tool. Unlike straws or tubes, it allows singers to vocalise whole words while maintaining back pressure, making it a versatile aid for releasing tension, balancing breath flow, and building efficient vocal production.

Transpose
This Google Chrome extension allows you to adjust pitch in real time, change playback speed (25%–400%), and loop sections seamlessly—making it easier to slow down tricky phrases, transpose songs to comfortable keys, and master challenging passages. Compatible with YouTube, Vimeo, Spotify Web Player, SoundCloud, Apple Music, Deezer etc.
